CANAAN — Superintendent Amanda Isabelle is pleased to announce that April Guinness has been selected as Interim Principal of Canaan Elementary School in Canaan.

Guinness, who is currently Associate Principal and Athletic Director at Indian River School, will start her new position at Canaan Elementary on July 1.

“I look forward to this new adventure and educational opportunity,” Guinness said. “I’ve heard nothing but positive things about the Canaan Elementary School staff, which reflects its status as a former National Blue Ribbon School. I welcome the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and caring staff, and look forward to meeting our students in the coming months.”

Guinness has worked in the Mascoma district for 20 years, beginning her professional career as a Mathematics teacher at Mascoma Valley Regional High School. She also took on roles of increasing responsibility, serving as Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator at the High School from 2016 to 2021. In that role Guinness was responsible for curriculum and development, testing, and training.

Guinness was selected as Associate Principal and Athletic Director at Indian River School in 2021.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Plymouth State College, and a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University.

“April is an experienced educator and leader. She understands the needs of our students and the expectations of our parents and guardians, and models our core values of respect, responsibility, and community,” Superintendent Isabelle said. “I am excited see what April and the Canaan faculty and staff will be able to achieve.”
